We all start connected
tethered to a source through
which every desire is met.
There is no rumbling stomach,
no need to lift a heavy fork
to one’s mouth.
There are no lonely nights,
no feet left cold. The world
is everything it should be
and we don’t fear the dark.
We are content
to let the future remain the future—
that cascade of days
buffered by a belly.
But, one day, we’re severed
from the stalk,
arranged neatly in a crib
like a fresh bouquet.
We always remember, though,
that time before dawn
when we were attached to another
and full.
If we’re honest, every day
we try to find our way back there.
Someday,
I suspect,
we’ll make it.

Wow, Andy! How did I miss this one? Loved it! I’m sure we all would like to be back there…my search for a stronger connection with God is more than likely wanting that feeling and reassurance.
