Street Lamp Theophany

The curve of your neck
keeps me awake,

your beam threading
through thin curtains

casting me in gold.
Adorning your collar,

your hem, I am
a glint

announcing the arrival
of someone beautiful.

Unlike this daylight
that now exposes me

lackluster and lost.

Make me a mosquito
to twirl your face,

a pearl of rain
to accentuate your glow,

a spider’s web of lace
to grace your neckline.

Let me see the sudden
brightness of your reappearing

as the sky darkens
before an afternoon

thunderstorm.
